Recommended Restaurants in PV

There are so many wonderful restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, ranging from the everyday to those for special occasions.

One that has become a personal favourite is a tiny Italian restaurant called Il Pesce, on Calle Constitución 285B, Zona Romántica, only 5 minutes walking from Casa Lucas. It hasn’t been open long but it is already a firm favourite in PV.  The chef is Italian and the service is wonderful, friendly and local.  All the ingredients are super-fresh, including the fish of course!

I think not only that it´s the best Italian food in PV, but some of the best Italian food I´ve eaten anywhere, including in Italy.  And all for amazingly good prices. Definitely a must when you travel to Puerto Vallarta.

The concept is simple.  A range of starters (antipasti), with a choice of pastas for main. There are occasional specials as well. My favourite starters are the all the carpaccios (especially the swordfish) and the tartare di tonno (tuna tartare).  A good dish to share are the Gamberi in Saor (polenta, shrimp, onions, raisin and almonds) which come in a set of delicious individual portions.  And anyone after heartier food to start should definitely try the amazing Fritura Mistika (fried seafood and vegetables).

I love the idea of having only a small selection of really good things on a menu.  And the main courses are no exception.  All the pastas are fresh, with amazingly good sauces and fresh ingredients. The ragu of octopus is my favourite.  Prices around 200 pesos per dish, which is amazingly reasonable for such a hearty and fresh food.  If you like a glass of white wine to accompany your food you should definitely try a glass of the catarrato, which is the perfect accompaniment.
